Hawks Report: Las Positas Women's Soccer Makes It 5 For 5

Barron scores two goals in a 5-0 win over Ohlone, the soaring Hawks' fifth straight win in the Coast-North

The Las Positas College women’s soccer team made it 5 for 5 in Coast Conference-North play with a 5-0 win over visiting Ohlone on Friday, Oct. 11.

Paola Barron led the Hawks (8-5-1, 5-0-0) with two goals, Camryn Adams had a goal and two assists and Haley Chitwood had three assists against the Renegades.

Las Positas coach Andy Cumbo attributes the team's run of excellence to several factors.

"It's a combination of tough nonconference games, positive attitudes, hard work and team chemistry. And players are making plays," Cumbo says.

The Hawks have a big game against host City College of San Francisco (8-5-1, 3-0-1) at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15, with the winner gaining the upper hand in the race for the conference title.

With a stout defense, Las Positas has outscored its three previous opponents a combined 9-0. The Hawks blanked Foothill 2-0 on Oct. 8 and a 2-0 win over Skyline on Oct. 4. Adams and Chitwood did the scoring damage. Chitwood is a tied for fifth in the state in assists with eight.

Leila Anzo added a goal and an assist against the Renegades and Araceli Hinojosa scored. Goalkeepers Marisol Camargo and Maleni Morales each made four saves in 45 minutes of action in the shutout. Camargo is ranked third in the state in save percentage at .947.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Taylor Cruz had 17 kills and 13 digs for the Hawks in a tough 3-1 loss to visiting Foothill in the Coast-North on Oct. 11. Sydney Rhodes paced the Hawks (6-6, 0-2) with 19 assists to go with four digs. Rachel Dayton had five kills, 12 assists and three digs. Krystal Tempra had nine digs.

The Hawks will host Cabrillo in the Coast-North on Wednesday, Oct. 16, and Skyline on Friday, Oct. 18. Both contests will start at 6:30 p.m.

MEN’S SOCCER

The young Hawks (3-8-1, 0-3) will look to snap a four-game losing streak when they travel to Skyline on Tuesday, Oct. 15. Arnaud Mantuidi and Tyler Cesio scored in a loss to Hartnell on Oct. 12 in Salinas.

WATER POLO

The Hawks men’s team (6-15, 1-1) return to Coast Conference action with home showdowns against De Anza on Wednesday, Oct. 16 and Ohlone on Wednesday, Oct. 23. Both contests are at 3 p.m.

WOMEN’S WATER POLO

The Hawks (4-3, 2-3) will look to get it rolling again in Coast-North play at home against De Anza at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
