SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — Juneteenth — or Friday, June 19 this year — is a day that celebrates the end of slavery in the United States.

Events are planned throughout the country. Here's how you can celebrate Juneteenth this year:

Black Lives Matter Demonstration

A "Juneteenth to Allegiance" protest with speakers is planned at 5:45 p.m. Friday. Participants will meet in front of Louden Nelson Center (301 Center St.) and march to City Hall (809 Center St.).

NAACP Juneteenth Virtual Celebration

NAACP Santa Cruz suggests residents tune in to a Zoom event coordinated by Oakland NAACP Imani Youth Council. Short film "Tent City" will be screened.

University of California, Santa Cruz Zoom Event
