Livermore City Council: Applications In For 5th Member
The Livermore City Council will screen applicants at its first meeting of 2021.

LIVERMORE, CA — The applications are in and the process of selecting and seating the fifth and final member of the Livermore City Council will continue until the member is seated in three weeks.
Former Vice Mayor Bob Woerner was elected mayor in November, defeating local realtor and former Livermore Police Officer Mony Nop with about 65 percent of the vote. He replaced John Marchand, who stepped down from the role after nine years.
City Clerk Marie Weber said Monday her office was still sorting applications for the job, the term of which will run until 2022. It's officially an at-large position, which opened the seat to all city residents. But the occupant will have to reside in the city's northwest District 1 or northeast District 2 in 2022 to run for re-election, as both seats will be up for grabs.

The newest member could also stay on the council by running for mayor. The other two seats are up for re-election in 2024.
The City Council decided Dec. 15 to forego a special election and appoint its next member, saving the city $1.1 to $1.2 million on holding a special election. The city shifted to council districts in 2018.
At its Jan. 11 meeting -- the first scheduled one of 2021 -- the council will screen applicants and decide which ones will be interviewed during a special Jan. 18 session. The new member of the council will take their seat during the regular Jan. 25 meeting.
