Livermore Hoists Pride Flag; Date Set For City's 2021 Pride Event

LIVERMORE, CA — June is LGBTQ Pride month and the city of Livermore has paid tribute by raising the rainbow flag, symbolic of LGBTQ pride, at the civic center.

This marks the third year that Livermore has flown the pride flag, said Livermore Pride Executive Director Amy Pannu in a video posted to the organization's Facebook page.

"This flag serves as a colorful reminder of how our city is strengthened and enriched by the diversity of our residents, business owners, and students, and we continue to work toward a more inclusive community," the city wrote on Facebook.

This year the city is flying a version of the flag first flown in Philadelphia, which includes black and brown stripes in honor of people of color who are part of the LGBTQ pride movement, and the intersection of the civil and LGBTQ rights movements, she said.

"This is all about inclusion and celebrating the diversity of our city and bringing people together to celebrate and spread joy and make this the best city that has ever been, Pannu said.

The flag was hoisted a few months ahead of a planned Livermore Pride celebration announced last month. The PRIDEFEST2021 event is slated for Oct. 16 and 17, according to Livermore Pride.

The organization will also host a Pride Prom Friday.
