Livermore Indivisible Advocates For DC Statehood, Court Reform

LIVERMORE, CA — As the House of Representatives traveled back to Washington over the weekend to pass a resolution invoking the 25th amendment to impeach President Donald Trump, the grassroots community organization, Livermore Indivisible, met virtually via Zoom with Congressman Eric Swalwell, who represents California's 15th congressional district.

During the meeting, the congressman told the group that he along with his Democratic colleagues remain focused on removing the president from office, uniting against radicalized terrorists and holding them accountable.

"President Trump bears responsibility for the violent coup attempt that occurred last week," Rep. Swalwell said in a tweet Monday. "He is a dangerous, delusional demagogue whose malignant narcissism has put our national security at risk too many times. He must be removed."

A Capitol police officer died from injuries suffered in the riot, and police shot a woman during the violence. Three others died in what authorities said were medical emergencies.

The Republican National Committee was quick to condemn the violence in and around the U.S. Capitol.

"These violent scenes we have witnessed do not represent acts of patriotism, but an attack on our country and its founding principles," read a statement from the RNC.

With days left before Trump's term is up, Swalwell's Republican counterparts argue that impeaching Trump would further widen the political divide in the country.

Others have also accused Democrats of hypocrisy and setting a double standard.

"Where was the leftwing outrage when BLM/Antifa were pulling down statues and setting peoples' businesses alight last summer...where?" one Twitter user posed.

"This week we learned the left suddenly condemns rioting and cares about law enforcement. Interesting. Hope that sentiment lasts!" Fox Nation host, Tomi Lahren, said via Twitter. "Don’t forget, Trump supporters had one bad day. The left did worse all summer and never apologized for it."

Meanwhile, in a joint statement following last Wednesday's riot, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) maintain that “the president’s dangerous and seditious acts necessitate his immediate removal from office."

In addition to discussing Trump's swift removal from office, Livermore Indivisible asked Swalwell's support for DC statehood, court reform, and his commitment to joining the Progressive Caucus.

"You are on top of passing the Pandemic Relief package, as well as HR1, HR4, DC Statehood and Reform the Court,” said Marla Hoehn, a Steering Committee member of Livermore Indivisible after a short speech of the congressmen. “Livermore Indivisible is asking you to join the Congressional Progressive Caucus because being a part of a voting block may help support progressive agenda easier.”

Swalwell responded by affirming his plans to join the caucus as he ages out of the Future Forum, the caucus he founded in 2015.

He also added that as Joe Biden prepares to take office, his administration’s top priority will be to vaccinate American people against the coronavirus. The congressman said his policy priority will be to end gun violence to keep kids safe in their schools.
