Patch: Tell us a bit about the Knights of Columbus organization.
Lundbom: Father Patrick Power Council #4588 was chartered in 1958 with the Knights of Columbus that was established in 1882, 140 years ago, by Father Michael J. McGivney at St Mary’s Catholic Church in New Haven, Connecticut based on these founding principles: Charity, unity and fraternity; with intent to bring financial aid and assistance to the sick, disabled and needy members and their families. The Knights of Columbus membership is 2 million strong today of Catholic men who are faith-bound to keep charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism as the pillars of this fraternal organization — not nationally — but worldwide.

Patch: Tell us a bit about the Livermore Knights of Columbus.
Lundbom: The Livermore Knights of Columbus Council #4588 is 420 members with the same drive for these pillars, especially charity. This is our 48th year of having an Annual Charity Auction and this year our first year as a Virtual Charity Auction with an added action item, a Charity Showdown. Usually our Charity Auction is tied to our Annual Crab Feed, which was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Gala Food may halt, but the need for Charity Funding is bigger than ever, hence our first Virtual Auction and Charity Showdown.
Patch: How long have you been associated with the event?
Lundbom: I have been Chairman or Auction Director of Annual Crab Feed & Charity Auction for the last eight years and cannot make it happen without a team of devoted knights and their ladies. All Knights of Columbus events always involve the family, not just the brother knights.
Patch: What’s the most exciting thing about this year’s event?
Lundbom: We are extremely excited about putting on our first Virtual Charity Auction & Charity Showdown, the first of its kind with the potential of reaching a much wider audience with the opportunity to raise a substantial amount of funding for charitable causes and have fun doing it with an action packed program.
Patch: How can Patch readers find out more about the event?
Lundbom: Come to our website and follow the links to the Virtual Auction and Charity Showdown and link to our Facebook page. Tickets are only $25 and all proceeds from the event go towards charitable service done for our communities by the Knights of Columbus. This year, we are proud to be featuring five amazing charities in our showdown:
- Open Heart Kitchen
- Shepherds Gate
- Goodness Village
- One More Wave
- The Association of African American Vintners
