Livermore Police Issue Traffic Advisory For July 4

Some streets will be closed, and traffic delays are expected on all roadways surrounding downtown from 4 p.m. until 11 p.m. on July 4.

LIVERMORE, CA — Several roads will be closed in Livermore on Thursday starting at 4 p.m. for the city's July 4 fireworks show. The closures listed below are expected to last until 11 p.m. Thursday night, according to the Livermore Police Department:

  • First Street will be closed between Old First Street and South “L” Street
  • Railroad Avenue will be closed between Maple Street and South “L” Street
  • Maple Street will be closed between Third Street and Railroad Avenue
  • S. Livermore Avenue will be closed between Second Street and Chestnut Street

Traffic delays are expected on all roadways surrounding downtown from 4 p.m. until 11 p.m. on July 4. Community members are encouraged to walk to the downtown area or use public transportation. WHEELS busses will be running on the 4th of July with service to the transit center in downtown. Those not wanting to access the downtown area should use Fourth Street or Portola Avenue to travel across town, according to police.

The parking garage downtown will be closed to vehicles on Thursday from 2 a.m. until approximately 11 p.m., police said. Motorists can park in the garage prior to 2 a.m., but they won't be able to drive out of the garage until the road closures have been lifted, according to police.

The fireworks show will begin around 9:20 p.m. and will last approximately 20 minutes. Community members wishing to view the display are encouraged to gather on the closed roadways. These should be the prime viewing locations, police said.

Community members can bring chairs and set them up on the closed roadways. The fireworks display will not be high in the sky; instead the show will consist of concentrated low-level fireworks, according to police. Community members wanting to view the fireworks from other than the prime viewing locations should grab a spot within a few blocks of the parking garage, with visibility of the top of the downtown parking structure.

Consumption and possession of open containers of alcohol in public places is not allowed in Livermore. Additionally, all fireworks are illegal in the city, including “Safe and Sane” types. The Livermore Police Department will have extra officers working July 4, and these officers will be looking for alcohol and fireworks violations, according to police.
