Livermore Recreation Seeks Volunteers for Sycamore Grove Trail Building

Livermore Area Recreation and Park District and Volunteers for Outdoor California will build a trail within Sycamore Grove Park in April.

From Livermore Area Recreation and Park District: Spend the day or the weekend in the great outdoors enjoying beautiful natural settings and camaraderie while making open space more accessible to outdoor enthusiasts.

The Livermore Area Recreation and Park District is partnering again with Volunteers for Outdoor California (V-O-Cal) to build a trail within Sycamore Grove Park. The planned multi-use trail is slated to be a mile long and be located in the new Sycamore Grove extension property. The trail will wind up and down hills, passing oak trees and through a eucalyptus grove. Volunteers will have views of the Livermore Valley, Brushy Peak Regional Preserve and more.

By volunteering with V-O-Cal, participants will make a lasting contribution by building a new trail. Volunteers can work on the trail, provide kitchen duty or staff the base camp. Tools and gloves will be provided along with instructions. Food will be provided for volunteers, along with a campfire and optional campout overnight in the park. No previous trail building experience is necessary. These projects provide a great way to meet people with similar interests as well as earn community service hours. Children ages 14 and over are welcome; however, volunteers under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

V-O-Cal partnered with LARPD in 2015 to build two trails in Sycamore Grove, turning existing out-and-back trails into loop trails. These are now the scenic Valley View Loop and Cattail Pond Loop trails.

Those interested in volunteering can sign up online at www.v-o-cal.org. Work days are Saturday, April 29, and Sunday, April 30, with the option to do a single-day shift or campout Friday and/or Saturday nights in the open space park. For more information, call LARPD at 925-960-2400. Registration must be done through the V-O-Cal website.
