Missing Livermore Dog Found After Days On The Lam

Rescuers said the pup was still wearing his adorable Christmas sweater when he was found, which likely saved his life.

LIVERMORE, CA — After days on the run, a wayward Livermore dog was found safe. The tiny Chihuahua, who was wearing a Christmas sweater when he bolted out of his house, ran away on Dec. 14, just four days after he was adopted from a Monterey County Shelter.

Susan Packer, the founder of K9reunite, is a volunteer who helps owners who have lost their dogs. Packer helped organize the search efforts to bring Ringo home. Friends and family searched for the dog for days. Fueled by tips coming in from readers who saw Ringo's story on Livermore Patch and social media outlets, the group kept looking. Residents reported seeing Ringo cross Los Positas Road several times and started pinpointing his location.

On Dec. 20, a neighbor on Corte Sueno spotted the pup resting between two homes. Ringo’s owners, local dog rescuer Brent Siler, and others quickly assembled and used blankets to corral the small escape artist.

During his time on the run, the small dog likely avoided being hit by cars thanks to his colorful sweater, which allowed him to be seen by passing motorists and to stay warm during the chilly nights, according to Packer.

Ringo’s family and rescuers thanked the community for helping share the dog’s story and for sending in tips.
