New Agreement Allows Airport Passengers to Use Uber

Travelers using Oakland Airport can get picked up and dropped off by Uber.

Passengers will now have more transportation options coming and going from the Oakland International Airport, airport officials announced Friday.

Transportation network company Uber has struck an agreement with the airport authorizing the company’s UberX service to legally pick up and drop off passengers as of Thursday, according to airport officials.

“We are thrilled to add Oakland to the growing list of airports that have embraced ridesharing services like UberX as a safe, reliable transportation option,” Uber Bay Area General Manager Wayne Ting said in a statement.

The agreement is part of an eight-month pilot program and marks the airport’s second agreement with a TNC, airport officials said.

Two weeks ago, the airport announced it had entered into an agreement with Lyft, also under an eight-month pilot period.

After the two respective pilot periods, airport officials will evaluate the success of the agreements and then review their options from there.

“Uber’s availability at OAK expands our ground transportation offerings for our passengers,” Acting Director of Aviation Kristi McKenney said in a statement. “It is important that we are inclusive and responsive tocustomer demand, which includes the ability to use TNCs.”
