No. 7 Seed Las Positas To Host Taft In Women's Soccer Playoffs

Hawks earned second conference title in program history under head coach Andy Cumbo

The Coast Conference-North Division champion Las Positas College women’s soccer team received the No. 7 seed and a home berth for the CCCAA Northern California Regionals.

The Hawks (12-5-4) will host No. 10 Taft (10-8-3) at 5 p.m. on Saturday in Livermore. Las Positas earned the second conference championship in program history with a 9-0-2 record under head coach Andy Cumbo.

“It’s been good. We won the conference, we went undefeated,” Cumbo said proudly. “… It hasn’t been easy. We’ve got a great group and they believe in each other. There’s tons of support for everybody, so I’m really proud of them. They’ve worked really hard to put themselves in the position to have such a good year and now we’re ready to move into that third season.”

“They’re good. They finished the regular season on a high note,” Cumbo said of Taft. “I think at this point anybody can beat anybody and you’ve got to respect all of your opponents. They’re gonna be a good matchup.”

Hawks sophomore goalkeeper Marisol Camargo is ranked No. 2 in the state in save percentage at .947. She has 72 saves and an impressive 0.38 goals against average. Fellow keeper, freshman Maleni Morales was also outstanding. The keeper duo rotated as starters in conference play.

Freshman defender Leila Anzo led the Hawks with 27 points on nine goals and nine assists. Camryn Adams has a team-high 11 goals and is No. 2 with 26 points. Hailey Chitwood led the Hawks with 12 assists, and Camille Le Blanc was third on the team with eight assists to go with six goals.

“Things are still falling into place,” Cumbo said about his team’s play. “We made some adjustments after that nonleague run and we were able to score some more goals and keep the ball from the back of the net too.”
