Swalwell will join Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley, the City of Livermore, and Sandia National Laboratories to restore a four bedroom home in need of significant repairs in Livermore.

The home will be made available for purchase at an affordable price by a low-income, first-time homebuyer. Preference will be given to veterans, and outreach to the local veteran community is underway. Once selected, the homebuyer will participate in the rehab of the home.

“Our veterans served us and now it’s our turn to serve them,” said Swalwell. “The unemployment rate among veterans in California is unacceptably high at 9.8 percent. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to help a worthy veteran and his or her family find a home in the East Bay, and I will continue my work in Congress to assist our local veterans as they transition from active-duty military service to civilian life.”

Among his work to help veterans, in March, Swalwell sent a letter to the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee urging $75 million for the HUD Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing, which would help end homelessness for 10,000 of our nation's veterans.

Volunteers are invited to help build at this site every Wednesday-Saturday from 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM. Habitat for Humanity provides all the tools, safety gear, and materials needed for the build day. No previous skills are necessary.
