A collaboration between the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District (LVJUSD), the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District (LARPD), and the City of Livermore, in partnership with Walgreens, brought the COVID-19 vaccine to 475 individuals in a one-day clinic held at the Robert Livermore Community Center on March 11, 2021. This clinic ensured vaccines were available close to home for our educational service providers as LVJUSD plans to reopen schools on March 22, 2021.

Walgreens provided the Janssen (Johnson and Johnson) vaccine, which further simplified the process by offering a one-dose protection against COVID-19. “We have been proactively seeking a vaccine sponsor for months. We are so grateful for regional Walgreens coming through for us,” said LVJUSD Superintendent Kelly Bowers, Ed.D. Walgreens pharmacy staff were on site from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. administering the vaccines.

Alameda County Supervisor, David Haubert, visited the clinic yesterday and praised the coordination of LVJUSD, the City of Livermore, and LARPD. “Making sure our educators get vaccinated is essential to having our kids back into school,” said Haubert.

Julie Knight, Principal of Our Savior Lutheran School appreciated the local clinic to support the vaccination of local educators. “Prioritizing vaccinations for our community's educational professionals ensures that student and staff's health and safety remain the top priority in getting the students back into the classroom," said Knight. LVJUSD Special Education Program Specialist Heather Psaros said “I was very excited to see the school district and local community team up to help with the vaccination process. Everything was beautifully set up and well organized.”

Mat Fuzie, LARPD General Manager said, “The opening of the one-day vaccination clinic was an example of what a community can do when different agencies work together for a common goal.”
LVJUSD School Nurse and COVID-19 Liaison Carolyn Reggiardo, who helped at the clinic, said, “These vaccines will help to protect our community as we look toward slowing the spread of COVID -19.” Bowers added, “The clinic was an amazing example of a community coming together to take care of one another. Everyone we served came away with renewed hope and health.”

With the success of this vaccination clinic, LVJUSD will continue to work with local partners, Alameda County, and pharmacy partners to provide future clinics to serve the Livermore area in neighborhoods hardest hit by the pandemic. City Manager Marc Roberts said, “We look forward to partnering to bring future vaccination opportunities to Livermore.”
