13-Year-Old Arrested For Violent Threats At Long Beach School

LONG BEACH, CA – A 13-year-old eighth-grader was arrested Thursday for allegedly threatening violence at a Long Beach elementary school.

Officers were called about 10:35 a.m. to Cubberly Elementary School, a kindergarten through eighth grade school at 3200 Monogram Ave., according to the Long Beach Police Department.

"Upon arrival, the officers conducted an investigation and determined there was probable cause to arrest a 13-year-old eighth-grade student for criminal threats," police said.

The student, whose name and gender were not disclosed, would be booked and taken to Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall in Downey, police said.

Long Beach police investigated three other school threats last week and three youths – a 14-year-old boy who allegedly threatened officials at Tincher Preparatory School, a 15-year-old freshman at Millikan High School who was allegedly overheard making a threat, and a 16-year-old junior at Wilson High School who allegedly made threats to harm others at the school – were arrested, police said.

A rash of threats has plagued Southern California schools since a 19- year-old gunman killed 17 people at a high school in Parkland, Florida, on Feb. 14.
