All But One Section of Beach Reopened After Sewage Spill
Most beaches in Long Beach have been reopened to swimmers after a Sept. 15 sewage spill.
The city of Long Beach today reopened to swimmers all but one section of beach closed since a September 15 sewage spill from San Gabriel, a health official said.
“Long Beach Health officials are reopening all open coastal beaches except for Fifth Place and Ocean Avenue,” said City Health Officer Dr. Mitchell Kushner. “All bayside beaches remain open.”
Kushner ordered all open coastal swimming areas closed September 15 after the Los Angeles County Sanitation District reported the spill of at least 250,000 gallons about 33 miles upstream from Long Beach.

Coastal beaches east of Molino Avenue were reopened Thursday after daily water samples showed that area was safe for swimming. Today, coastal beaches west of Molino Avenue were deemed safe except for the Fifth Place area, Kushner said.
