Long Beach began administering vaccines in December 2020 and has worked diligently over the past several months to administer vaccines to individuals as they become eligible, in accordance with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the State of California. Long Beach has hosted 189 community clinics to date, and continues to host vaccine clinics for older adults, mobile clinicsand evening clinics while also partnering with Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD) to host vaccine clinics on select school campuses as part of the City’s ongoing commitment to ensuring COVID-19 vaccinations are accessible to all. The City also partners with community organizations to host pop-up vaccines across Long Beach.

As new variants emerge, it is now more important than ever for people to get their COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccines available have been shown to be effective against severe illness, hospitalization and death for the variants that have appeared so far, including the Delta variant. Long Beach continues to operate its vaccination clinic at the Long Beach Convention Center as well as hosting mobile clinics at area parks and schools. On May 11, 2021, the City introduced a vaccine incentive program to encourage eligible people to get vaccinated. The incentive program kicked off with free tickets to the Aquarium of the Pacific, with approximately 5,700 tickets distributed, and continued with opportunity drawings for Nintendo Switches, Apple Airpods and complimentary two-night stays at local hotels and more. Since incentives began, more than 13,690 people have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine series, or one single dose of the Johnson & Johnson/Janssen vaccine.

The City continues to encourage all eligible community members to get the COVID-19 vaccine to protect themselves and others. There are a variety of ways eligible people can receive vaccines in Long Beach. For information about the City’s vaccination locations and hours of operation, visit longbeach.gov/vaxlb. Appointments are not required, but people interested in scheduling an appointment may do so by visiting the State’s vaccination portal, MyTurn.ca.gov, or by calling Vaccine Information Line at 562.570.4636. All vaccines are administered free of charge and have been provided directly by the federal government. No identification is needed to make an appointment or to be seen without an appointment.
