City Of Long Beach:Long Beach Public Library Invites Author Mark Oshiro To Celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride Month

Mark Oshiro will discuss their experience as a queer writer and the importance of representation in media; talk about their most recent book “Each of Us a Desert;” and take questions from the audience. 

The free event will take place via Zoom. Teens in 7th to 12th grades are welcome to register online up to the day of the event through Eventbrite at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/156830102057. Participants will be entered into an opportunity drawing to win LGBTQ-themed books.

“We have a unique opportunity to promote literacy to teens by introducing them to a notable and relevant author,” said Long Beach Public Library Director Glenda Williams. “Mark’s talent for getting young people excited about reading and writing is something we are happy to bring to the community.” 

Published in 2020, “Each of Us a Desert” is a powerful coming-of-age fantasy novel about finding home and falling in love amidst the dangers of a desert where stories come to life. 

In celebration of Pride Month, the Long Beach Public Library also held a children’s story time event and a teen yarn craft event.
