“We are thrilled to be partnering with the Long Beach Health Department to encourage awareness around the fight against COVID-19,” said Handel’s Ice Cream of Long Beach owner Greg Flaherty. “The Health Department has informed us vaccinations are the best way to keep our schools and businesses open and provide our gateway to success and togetherness. We think that is worth celebrating with some free homemade ice cream.”
The City is continuing to encourage community members to get the COVID-19 vaccine, particularly as the Health Department has discovered that the Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus is present in Long Beach and is of grave concern to unvaccinated individuals. There are a variety of ways eligible people can receive vaccines in Long Beach. For information about the City’s vaccination locations and hours of operation, visit longbeach.gov/vaxlb. Appointments are not required, but people interested in scheduling an appointment may do so by visiting the State’s vaccination portal, MyTurn.ca.gov, or by calling the California COVID-19 Hotline at 833.422.4255.

Since the vaccine incentive program began in May, vaccination appointments have doubled. The incentive program kicked off with tickets to the Aquarium of the Pacific, with approximately 5,700 tickets distributed, and continued with Nintendo Switches, Apple Airpods and complimentary two-night stays at other local hotels. The City continues to explore various incentives and strategies to encourage all eligible residents to protect themselves and others from COVID-19 now that the State has fully reopened.
