The Guidance Center Receives Telly Award
Child and family mental health provider is awarded Telly for mental health training series focused on assisting law enforcement

The Guidance Center's Roll Call Mental Health Training Video Series received a Bronze Award in the 40th Annual Telly Awards. The Telly Awards honors excellence in video and television across all screens and is judged by leaders from video platforms, television, streaming networks and production companies including Vimeo, BuzzFeed and A&E Networks.
The Guidance Center's award-winning training series was created in collaboration with the Los Angeles and Long Beach police departments and the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department. The training series is pragmatic, concrete and direct, with the goal of assisting patrol officers in readily identifying the signs of mental illness in the field. This series equips officers with tools to safely and effectively respond to these encounters.
Matthew Murray, producer of Roll Call Mental Health Training Video Series, understood how meaningful and beneficial this series would be. "Mental illness touches all of us in some way, and I wanted to show others that you don't need to be a therapist to have a therapeutic impact on someone in crisis," Murray said. The series covers various topics, including how to assess serious mental illness, nonviolent de-escalation tactics, potential suicides, understanding autism, writing effective holds and self-care tips. Over 400 members of law enforcement have subscribed to the training series, and the videos have been utilized as a training resource for police departments in five counties and over 170 cities worldwide.

Any law enforcement agency across the globe can access the web-based videos for free at The Guidance Center's website: https://www.tgclb.org/roll-call/. The training series is provided at no cost thanks to a generous grant from The Ahmanson Foundation. Each video is formatted so that it can be completed during roll call, before officers go into the field, and do not require taking anyone off duty.
Long Beach Police Chief, Robert Luna, has seen the profound impact of this training series. "These innovative videos have been a great asset to the members of our Department," said Chief Luna. "Officers encounter individuals suffering from mental illnesses on a daily basis and these videos have been a critical tool in helping train officers with de-escalation techniques and achieve a positive outcome for all parties involved." The training series continues to receive superlative reviews from law enforcement.
