Healthy Active Long Beach Challenges Youth to 'Power Up'

Long Beach is invited to the free 'Power Up Your Summer' event on Saturday, June 10 at Chittick Field Park.

From the Department of Health and Human Services: The community is invited to the free ‘Power Up Your Summer’ event on Saturday, June 10 at Chittick Field Park.

The Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Healthy Active Long Beach Program invites the community to attend the 2017 “Power Up Your Summer” kick-off event on Saturday, June 10, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Chittick Field Park, 1900 Walnut Ave.

This free event kicks off the Power Up Your Summer challenge to encourage kids and their families to get at least 60 minutes of active play every day and eat more fruits and vegetables all summer long.

The event will bring together partners from multiple City Departments as well as many other community programs.

Attendees will receive health and nutrition information, as well as sample recipes that feature seasonal fruits and vegetables, and will be able to participate in multiple physical activity opportunities including;

  • · Zumba
  • · Bike Education
  • · Gold Sprint Challenges, a giant obstacle course
  • · Yoga

After the event, the DHHS’s Healthy Active Long Beach Program in collaboration with Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine will host free “pop-up” events to help kids stay active throughout the summer months. The event and activities offered by the Healthy Active Long Beach Program are made possible thanks to a United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) grant through the California Department of Public Health’s Nutrition Education and Obesity Prevention Branch.
