The Five News Headlines That Everyone’s Talking About

  1. A homeless man was shot to death Friday near 9th Street and Daisy Avenue. Officers have no motive or suspects in the 3 a.m. shooting. This brings the number of shootings in the First Council District to 31 this year, the highest in the city. (LB Report)
  2. A triple shooting near The Hooters at Shoreline Drive and Aquarium Way wounded two adults and a minor in downtown LB. Taking place around 8 p.m. on Saturday, police detained three people of interest. (LB Local News)
  3. On Wednesday, at around 10:30 p.m., residents reported gunfire around South Street and Ackerfield Avenue. One man was shot and another wounded. If you have information, please contact LBPD Homicide Detectives Donald Collier or Leticia Gamboa at 562-570-7244. (OC Breeze)
  4. A massive tree branch collapsed in Whaley Park Saturday afternoon, injuring six people. The reason for the collapse is unknown. (LB Post)
  5. Barbara Eguyd “lived for helping children to love books.” This commitment earned her the title “Literacy Angel.” Her work, which included the “Bring Me a Book” initiative, was honored by the YMCA, which now displays a painting praising the late book lover at 3605 LB Blvd. (LB Press Telegram)
