Just Like Heaven Festival: Must-See Photos, Video
The Just Like Heaven festival was an early 2010s indie pop dream, featuring Phoenix, MGMT, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Beach House.
LONG BEACH, CA — The Just Like Heaven festival, held at the Queen Mary Park in Long Beach over the weekend, was aptly named: the best of 2010s indie pop playing right next to the ocean made for a dreamy music festival.
The Goldenvoice event was originally supposed to be a one-day festival, but after Saturday tickets sold out almost instantly, the festival organizers added another day of music on Friday.
Just Like Heaven had all the bands that were probably on your iPod (when iPods were still a thing), including headliners: Phoenix, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, MGMT and Beach House. The crowd, comprised of mostly millennials, jammed out like they were in high school again — exactly the lineup and atmosphere Just Like Heaven cultivated.

Like any new festival, it had its quirks. To get to the fest, attendees had to hop on a shuttle from a designated stop. Inside the festival, there were two options to move from one stage to the other: over a bridge or under a tunnel. While the line for the bridge was backed up at times, crowds moving through the tunnel seemed to flow smoothly (with the occasional joyous yelling while in the tunnel itself).
The music, however, couldn't be beat. Remember Passion Pit? They played all their hits, like "Take a Walk," "Sleepyhead" and "Little Secrets." Breakbot performed a DJ set and got the crowd dancing, mixing hits from Daft Punk and more.

STRFKR put on an incredibly entertaining performance — from their space suits to crowd surfing on inflatable birds, it was a wild ride (pun intended) from start to finish. Other standouts included: Grizzly Bear, Miike Snow, The Rapture, Tokyo Police Club, Washed Out and Neon Indian.
Long Beach has become a hot spot for music festivals in recent years, with favorites like Tropicalia Fest and Music Tastes Good, along with newbies Just Like Heaven and Once Upon A Time in the LBC. Smaller crowds, well-curated lineups, ocean views and Long Beach flair make it an easy choice for a venue.
