Long Beach Honors College Bound Students
Long Beach will hang a banner to honor recent graduates that will attend college or enter the armed forces.
From LBUSD: Long Beach Vice Mayor Rex Richardson unveiled street banners of 2017 Jordan High School graduates who are attending a community college, 4-year university or entering the U.S. armed forces. This is the third year that Vice Mayor Richardson has implemented the Jordan graduate banner program in partnership with LBUSD Board Vice President Megan Kerr and Jordan High School.
“These street banners celebrate the hard work and commitment to academic success of our North Long Beach students,” said Vice Mayor Richardson. “On behalf of the City of Long Beach, I congratulate all of our Jordan scholars on their pathways to higher education.”
The street banners will be placed across Atlantic Ave., between South St. and Artesia Blvd., and across Artesia Blvd., between Butler Ave. and Orange St. The program is paid for through District 9 one-time infrastructure funds.

“Once again, we are proud to recognize and celebrate our Jordan scholars with college banners along the corridors,” said LBUSD Board Vice President Kerr. “This is a very public display of the pride we have in our youth that can inspire the whole community. We are grateful to Vice Mayor Richardson for his unwavering support of and commitment to the Jordan High school community.”
In addition, this year as part of the North Long Beach Education Fund, a joint effort between Vice Mayor Richardson and LBUSD Board Vice President Kerr to support North Long Beach students and families, five seniors were awarded the “Allen Alevy Student Empowerment Scholarships.” Made possible by a generous donation from the Alevy family to the Long Beach Education Foundation, this scholarship recognizes Jordan graduates for their scholastic achievements, aptitude for leadership, and their pursuit of higher education.
