Children's Hospital Going Blue for Autism Awareness

The Miller Children's Hospital in Long Beach is lighting its building in blue to raise awareness about autism.

The Miller Children's Hospital joins landmarks and other institutions worldwide as they light up in blue to mark Autism Awareness Day on Tuesday.

The hospital's building will be lit up and hospital staffers will wear the color blue as part of an international effort to increase public education about autism spectrum disorder.

The neurological disorder affects as many as one in every 88 children, according to the 2012 estimates from the Centers of Disease Control. A recent CDC National Center for Health Statistics report based on a parents' survey indicated the prevalence may be even higher, possibly impacting one in every 50 school-age children.
