A car theft suspect taken into custody by Long Beach police after a private security firm guarding an industrial property called for help died at the hospital he was taken to, authorities said Tuesday.Â
Officers found two security guards detaining the suspect near a fence in the 6200 block of Paramount Avenue Saturday. They had found the man on private property entering employees' vehicles. Long Beach police handcuffed the suspect, described only as a man in his 20s or 30s, and he went into ``medical distress,'' police said.Â
The man had tried to steal a car from the security guards and a struggle had ensued. The suspect then ran and the security guards caught him as he was trying to jump a fence, police said. Homicide detectives and the coroner's office are conducting investigations. Police were called to the scene at 6:47 p.m. Saturday. Anyone with information on the case was asked to call Long Beach homicide detectives Malcolm Evans and Todd Johnson at (562) 570-7244.
