Long Beach Man Fatally Shot On His Porch

A motive for the murder was not yet known, police said.

Correction: Long Beach Police Sgt. Aaron Eaton corrected the victim's age. It is 33.

As he sat on his porch, Long Beach resident Ashley Sampson, 33, was fatally shot Wednesday night, Long Beach Police Department said Thursday morning.

Sampson was shot about 8:50 p.m. Wednesday in the 600 block of Lime Avenue, Long Beach police Sgt. Aaron Eaton said. Paramedics took Sampson to a hospital, where he died.

``The victim was sitting on his front porch when the suspects approached and shot at him multiple times,'' Eaton said in a statement. ``He was hit in the upper torso.''

The suspects were described only as ``possibly two male adults,'' Eaton said. A motive for the shooting was unknown. Anyone with more information on the crime was urged to call detectives Malcolm Evans or Todd Johnson, (562) 570-7244; or send anonymous tips via the website www.tipsoft.com.
