A preliminary investigation revealed that Schaak was a passenger in a 2015 Kia Rio that was being driven by a 90-year-old woman who failed to yield to oncoming traffic while exiting a driveway in the 4300 block of Long Beach Boulevard, police said.

The Kia was struck by a northbound 2010 Dodge Challenger that was being driven by a 27-year-old Long Beach woman and carrying six passengers — one of them a man and the rest five children. Only the man was wearing a seatbelt, police said.
