Long Beach Man Identified After Friday's Fatal Crash

LONG BEACH, CA — The 48-year-old driver pronounced dead after his vehicle struck a utility pole in Long Beach was identified Saturday. He was Jeff Lee of Long Beach, according to coroner's Lt. Brian Kim. Autopsy findings were deferred pending additional investigation.

Officers responded about 4:35 a.m. Friday to a report of a crash at the intersection of Studebaker Road and Driscoll Street, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

"When officers arrived, they discovered a 2016 Honda Civic collided with a wooden power line pole causing it to collapse," according to a police statement.

The Honda, driven by Lee, was northbound on Studebaker when the crash occurred, police said.

"There was minimal damage to the vehicle as it impacted the light pole at slow speed south of the intersection with Driscoll Street," police said

"The driver didn't appear to have any injuries from the collision and it appeared that the driver might have suffered a medical emergency at the time of the incident. There were no passengers in the vehicle and no other vehicles were involved."

No one witnessed the crash, police said.

Long Beach Fire Department paramedics pronounced Lee dead at the scene.
