The Five News Headlines That Everyone’s Talking About
- The White House has nominated Mayor Robert Garcia to serve as a trustee for the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation. It offers financial support for anyone pursuing careers in public service. (LB Post)
- The City will host a second session of its Homeless Court on July 21. The goal is to connect someone experiencing homelessness with resources while removing active warrants, expunging past convictions, and providing other legal services that allow for a fresh start. (LB City Prosecutor)
- The LB Building Superintendent considers the South Florida building collapse “alarming.” He explains that the “city has been proactive” and code enforcement personnel are working to make sure older LB high rises are up to code. Nevertheless, he states, “collapses could happen anytime.” (CBSLA)
- The City announces it has a BizCare Outreach Team that helps small businesses navigate grant applications, loan availability, and technical assistance. Small business owners can reach out to 562.570.4BIZ (4249) or visit one of its pop-ups. (City of LB)
- Byron Reed will be the first president of the LB Center for Economic Inclusion. This organization has already partnered with 25 community organizations and supported more than 150 small businesses in the last year. (LB Business Journal)
