Olympians Come To Long Beach

The first-ever Aquatic Games Opening Ceremony will be at the COVE's new "under the sea" venue, and many Olympians will be in attendance.

LONG BEACH, CA — Olympian Tony Azevedo and Azevedo Water Polo will hold the first Aquatic Games Opening Ceremonies at the Long Beach COVE on August 2. The Aquatic Games is an international water polo tournament in a festival atmosphere, according to an Azevedo Water Polo press release, that also includes interactive workshops, a Vendors Village, entertainment and a medal/trophy awards finale.

Along with water polo players and their parents and coaches, various Olympians will be in attendance as well, including: Olympic swimmers Jessica Hardy and Jason Lezak, water polo Olympians Merrill Moses, Brenda Villa, and Bruce Bradley and Olympic beach volleyball star Misty May Treanor, the press release said. ProRecco Italy, the top water polo club in the world, will also be at the event with Italian water polo Olympian and silver medalist Giacomo Pastorino.

The reception begins at 5:30 p.m. in the COVE's new "under the sea" venue with DJ Ron Andaya, food trucks, ping pong, photo booths, among other entertainment. The official opening presentation starts at 6:30 p.m. and will feature video footage that highlights the Olympians that will be in attendance, the press release said.
