The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a $10,000 reward today for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever shot a 23-year-old pawn shop employee in Long Beach.
On Nov. 29, Jose Luis Cruz Jr. was driving his red Dodge Magnum to drop off a package at a local post office when he was shot about 3:30 p.m. An A&T Pawnshop co-worker was riding with Cruz when a gunman in a car near Plymouth Street and Cedar Avenue pulled up and fatally shot Cruz, who died two days later from complications due to several wounds to the chest.
Police said the co-worker in the vehicle with Cruz told detectives that there was no dispute before the shooting. Cruz, a father of three, had worked at the pawn shop at Long Beach Boulevard and Market Avenue for about five years. Supervisor Don Knabe recommended the reward. The shooter was described only as a black man riding in the back seat of a maroon Nissan Altima with chromed door handles, according to family members. Anyone with more information about the killing was urged to call Detectives Hugo Cortes or Peter Lackovic at (562) 570-7244.
