San Diego Man Pleads Guilty In Deadly South Bay Crash

The wrong-way crash killed a motorcyclist on the San Diego (405) Freeway in Torrance in February.

REDONDO BEACH, CA – A San Diego man pleaded guilty Friday to three felony charges stemming from a wrong-way crash that killed a motorcyclist on the San Diego (405) Freeway in Torrance in February.

Gabriel Anthony Fajardo, 22, is facing four years and four months in state prison in connection with the Feb. 4 crash that left Nicholas Phillip Mann, 57, of Hawthorne, dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

Fajardo was driving his pickup truck northbound in the carpool lane of the southbound 405 Freeway near Artesia Boulevard when he struck Mann, according to Deputy District Attorney Thuy Pham.

Fajardo pleaded guilty to one count each of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage causing injury and driving with a 0.08 percent blood alcohol content causing injury, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

He is due back in a Torrance courtroom for sentencing Oct. 11.
