Live Love Animal Rescue in Long Beach is one of 62 animal welfare groups chosen from 240 applicants to receive a grant to help senior dogs.

Old dogs have something to wag about this summer, as The Grey Muzzle Organization announces the recipients of its annual grants, and dogs at Live Love Animal Rescue are among the winners.
Live Love Animal Rescue in Long Beach CA is one of 62 animal welfare groups chosen from 240 applicants to receive a grant to help local senior dogs. The groups received a total of nearly $419,000 in grants to help save or improve the lives of at-risk old dogs in communities nationwide.
This summer, Live Love Animal Rescue’s innovative Foster the 4th Program has saved 82 dogs from overcrowding the local shelter, Long Beach Animal Care Services (LBACS). This included 18 senior dogs, many of whom will benefit from the grant provided by The Grey Muzzle Organization.

“We are beyond thrilled to be honored with a grant for the second year in a row. The Foster the 4th Program allowed us to help seniors dogs like 10-year-old dachshund Shaggy and 15-year old chocolate lab Venus. Both had been in the shelter for some time, and we were able to get them out and place them in loving foster homes. This grant will help Shaggy and Venus get the veterinary and dental care they need so they will be ready to go to their forever homes,” said Emily Peters of Live Love Animal Rescue. “No one is more grateful or loving than an old dog, and we’re looking forward to helping more senior dogs get the second chance they deserve.”

In the past 11 years, the national nonprofit Grey Muzzle Organization has provided almost $2 million in grants to support its vision of “a world where no old dog dies alone and afraid.”

“Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we’re delighted to help deserving organizations like Live Love Animal Rescue make a difference in the lives of dogs and people in their communities,” Grey Muzzle’s Executive Director Lisa Lunghofer said. “We are also delighted to help support the senior dogs in the #Fosterthe4th program. We hope that these amazing senior dogs will soon join the many senior dogs in Long Beach enjoying their golden years in loving homes thanks to the wonderful work of Live Love Animal Rescue.”
In addition to Shaggy and Venus, we have also been able to help Rocco, a sweet 8 year old Border Collie surrendered by his owners for being scared and tearing up the backyard during the July 4th fireworks and Redford, a gentlemanly 8 year old chihuahua that came in as a stray with skin issues and is now healing in his doting foster family. Shaggy, Venus, Rocco, Redford and all our Foster the 4th dogs are ready to meet their Forever Families.
