Two Injured In Long Beach Drive-By Shooting

One victim was believed to be the intended target while the other may have been an innocent bystander.

LONG BEACH, CA — Two were wounded during a drive-by shooting in Long Beach Friday night. One man who was shot is believed to be the target of the shooting while the other man may have been an innocent bystander.

Both victims were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Karen Owens of the Long Beach Police Department.

A man was standing on the far side of an apartment courtyard on the 1400 block of Chestnut Avenue when a person in a dark vehicle drove by and shot the man once in the upper body, Owens said.

Officers were dispatched to the location around 7 p.m. Friday, she said.

"Officers also located a second male adult victim at the same location who was also shot one time in the lower torso," she said. "The second victim was a bystander and is not believed to be the intended target of the shooting."

A motive for the shooting was unknown and the investigation was ongoing, she said.
