This Week In Music: Concerts Around Long Beach & LA County
Here's a Q&A with Brooklyn-based electronic artist Jae Luna. Plus, a list of live music this week around LA County.

LONG BEACH, CA – There are a ton of great shows to catch this week in Los Angeles County, and we've gathered a list of live music from twenty of the county's top music venues for this week's round-up. From blues, to throwbacks, to indie rock, and electronic, there's something for everyone to see.
Jae Luna, a Brooklyn-based electronic artist, is classically trained in piano and voice, but began exploring making electronic music in college. He brings together his modern-day influences with his classical training by weaving the "flaws and glitches of his electronic production" with the more organic nature of his voice and instruments. His lyrics are deeply personal, providing insight into the mind of an artist affected by his life experiences.
Patch caught up Jae Luna, who will be performing Tuesday night at Madam Siam in Hollywood, to learn more about his creative process, guilty pleasures and more.

EH: When making music, are you more inspired by the culture/world around you, or your interpersonal relationships?
JL: I'm definitely more inspired by my interpersonal relationships. I usually like to write about experiences as opposed to perspectives. I feel like it can be more intimate writing about myself and the things I’ve seen instead of writing about the world and the culture that surrounds me.
EH: Have any guilty pleasures?
JL: Video games & The Script
EH: What’s the most difficult part of the music making process for you?
JL: Lately I think the most difficult thing about writing music has been trying to understand what a song needs versus what I want to put in it. From a producer angle, it’s easy to get carried away continuously adding all sort of instrumentation in the arrangement, but having too much can take away from the songwriting and lyrics of the song. As someone who does both, finding this balance can be challenging especially when I want the song to really underscore the meaning of the lyrics without compromising the integrity of the musicality or the professionalism.
EH: How is performing in LA different from performing in NY?
JL: Firstly, having a car (haha). Being in New York, you have to lug everything on the subway most of the time. On a more serious note, I think performing in LA is a little more open — the people are little more interactive where I feel like people in NY are more contemplative and observant. Both are great audiences with different energies.
EH: What do you hope for the future of your music?
JL: Hopefully for it to catch on a strong wind, open up to a wider audience, and be able to diversify genres while also keeping the integrity with my own “sound."
