Portions of Tampa Avenue and Chatsworth Street were expected to remain closed Saturday afternoon while police investigate a fatal wreck.
PORTER RANCH, CA — One person died trapped in the wreckage of a two-vehicle crash in Porter Ranch Saturday.
The crash occurred shortly after 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the 10800 block of North Tampa Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department's Brian Humphrey. One vehicle ran a red light while northbound on Tampa Avenue and was broadsided on the passenger side by a westbound vehicle on Chatsworth Street driven by a 21-year-old man, said Sgt. J. McGee of the Los Angeles Police Department's Valley Traffic Bureau. The broadsided vehicle then slammed into a pole in the center median crushing the driver's side, he said.
That driver, 47, was trapped in the vehicle upon impact and died at the scene. The other driver, 21, was not injured, Humphrey said.
