'Armed And Dangerous' Violent Sex Offender Escapes In Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, CA — Authorities are asking residents to be on alert for a violent sex offender who escaped his state-mandated program and was last seen fleeing into LA's Mid-Wilshire area.

On Wednesday evening at about 7:30 p.m., John Scott Carver, 71, cut off his monitoring device and fled towards San Vicente Boulevard and Sierra Bonita Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

"John Carver should be considered armed and dangerous," the LAPD warned the public. "If you observe John, please call 911 or contact your local law enforcement agency."

Carver is a mentally disordered violent sex offender, according to police. According to detectives, Carver is a 5-foot-11-inch white man weighing about 200 pounds with brown and gray hair and green eyes.

He sometimes goes by the names Scott Carver and Michael Meadows.
