2 Shot, 1 Killed On Melrose Avenue, Killer At Large

The second victim remains in critical condition, and police are searching for the shooter, who fled on foot.

LOS ANGELES, CA — One man was shot and killed and another was wounded on Melrose Avenue Tuesday afternoon. The shooter remains at large, and portions of Melrose Avenue remain blocked as homicide detectives investigate the shooting.

The shooting occurred just before 1 p.m. near Melrose Avenue and North Stanley Avenue, said Los Angeles Police Department Officer William Cooper. A man in his mid-20s approached the two victims and fire multiple shots before fleeing on foot, according to Cooper.

The first victim, a man in his early 20s was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics. The second victim was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, Cooper said.

"At this time it is unknown if the incident was gang-related," added Cooper.

Investigators have set up a crime scene closing off parts of Melrose Avenue between Stanley and North Curson avenue.
