Aggressive Effort Stops Topanga Wildfire

Amid the elevated wildfire danger of the season's most intense Santa Ana winds, firefighters took no chances with a Topanga brush fire.

TOPANGA, CA — Firefighters doused a small wildfire in the Santa Monica Mountains before it could spread beyond a quarter-acre Monday. With the most intense Santa Ana winds of the year whipping through the canyons, crews took no chances.

Firefighters sent out a 1st Alarm Response that included 115 personnel to fight the flames, Los Angeles County Fire Department spokeswoman Leslie Lua. The fire broke out at t 11:18 a.m. in the 21000 block of Winfield Road in Topanga. The brush fire crept its way through short vegetation, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department spokeswoman Leslie Lua.

Crews began arriving on scene at 11:23 a.m. The wildfire was knocked down by 11:34 a.m.
