Another Fall Heat Wave To Cook Los Angeles

Unseasonable heat will last most of the week, bringing critical fire danger across the Southland.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Yet another fall heat wave is descending upon the Southland, bringing highs in the upper 90s to Downtown Los Angeles and the valleys.

The above normal temperatures will arrive Monday afternoon with the heat wave peaking Wednesday and Thursday. Temperatures could reach triple digits for the warmest valley areas Wednesday through Friday, with cooling not expected until next weekend. The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory from 11 a.m. Tuesday until 5 p.m. Friday for Los Angeles and Orange counties. The heat combined with dry conditions will create a critical fire danger across the region.

A high of 94 is forecast for the San Fernando Valley Monday while downtown Los Angeles is expected to reach 89, according to the National Weather Service.Those numbers will rise to 97 Tuesday through Thursday in Santa Clarita, with Van Nuys hitting 98 Wednesday and Thursday and Fullerton reaching 95 on Tuesday. Downtown Los Angeles will heat up to 96 Wednesday and Thursday.

Northerly wind gusts of 35 mph will develop in the wind-prone spots of Los Angeles and Ventura counties late Sunday and Monday, the NWS said. The combination of winds, warm temperatures and low relative humidity will result in elevated to locally critical fire weather conditions for most areas through Tuesday.
