LOS ANGELES, CA — Wednesday was another scorcher that slew heat records across the Southland, including a 112 degree high in Los Angeles County. That was in Lancaster, which was still in the 90s as midnight approached Wednesday.
Expect more of the same on Thursday, forecasters warn.
A Flex Alert will be in effect across Los Angeles County Thursday evening, and folks are being asked to conserve energy to avoid the threat of rolling blackouts. Once again, this is the kind of heatwave where you'll want to check on elderly loved ones and neighbors to make sure they have access to air conditioning or cooling centers.

- A newborn baby was found in the trash can of a park restroom bathroom in Lynwood, and authorities hope someone will recognize the woman captured on camera nearby. The baby boy survived the ordeal and is in stable condition at the hospital (More on Patch).
- Undeterred by the effort to recall him, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon kicked the hornet's nest Wednesday, convening a panel of experts, activists and community members to re-examine cases of deadly force by Los Angeles law enforcement (More on Patch).
- City News Service had a gut-wrenching report on the court filings in the Aiden Leos murder case. Prosecutors allege the suspects got into a second armed road rage conflict in the days after shooting the kindergartner. They also outline the moments surrounding the deadly road rage shooting, including the alleged killer's admission that he "was angry after being `flipped off'' by the boys' mother, "so he grabbed his loaded Glock 17 9mm and racked a round." - Well here is a win/win. The next 50,000 Californians who get inoculated against the coronavirus will get a free ticket to Six Flags. Safe from the threat of COVID, the vaccinated can celebrate at Magic Mountain, and Magic Mountain gets guests who are less likely to cause outbreaks.
- The anti-vax crowd picked a fight with the Foo Fighters in Agoura Hills where the band required proof of vaccination to get into their first show back on the road. Footage from the demonstration outside the concert shows picketers comparing vaccination policy to Jim Crow racial segregation, and calling the Foo Fighters "pharma sellouts." (More on Patch).
