Missing Baby Found Safe, Kidnapping Suspect Arrested

Police found 11-month-old Heather safe near Skid Row and arrested a 39-year-old man on suspicion of kidnapping.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Heather, an 11-month-old girl who went missing from her home in South Los Angeles overnight has been found safe, and an acquaintance of her family has been arrested on suspicion of kidnapping her, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The LAPD had put out a citywide alert Monday, asking for help finding Heather, and, within minutes she was found near Broadway and 52nd Street, according to police.

That is when police arrested 39-year-old Delaneo Adams on suspicion of kidnapping her, said LAPD Officer Norma Eisenman. Detectives said Adams is believed to be a homeless acquaintance of the girl's parents. Police allege he was with the family Sunday night and abducted the girl as her parents were distracted. According to the LAPD, Adams was spotted in the Skid Row area of downtown, holding the child while riding an adult tricycle.

Adams was arrested at 3:15 p.m. and taken to a local hospital, according to the LAPD.

Authorities released no further details. The investigation is ongoing.
