The man was pronounced dead at the scene, as was a dog, firefighters said.

LOS ANGELES, CA – A San Fernando Valley man was killed on New Year's Day when his car veered off Interstate 10 between Indio and Blythe, the California Highway Patrol reported Tuesday.
The 49-year-old man was killed at 2:05 a.m. Monday on westbound Interstate 10, east of Hayfield Road, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Radford. The victim's name was not immediately released.
The officer said the man's 2018 Hyundai Elantra went "airborne" after traveling off the right side of the interstate, then landed on boulders. The impact overturned the Hyundai, and responding officers found the car on its roof, north of the freeway.
