Cliff Rescue Turns Into Body Recovery In San Pedro
Los Angeles firefighters sought to rescue a man who appeared stranded below Point Fermin Park, but he was dead.

SAN PEDRO, CA — Los Angeles firefighters attempted to rescue a man who appeared to be trapped near the bottom of a cliff below Point Fermin Park in San Pedro Monday, but discovered he was already dead when they got to him.
The rescue attempt began at about 4:15 p.m. Monday, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Nicholas Prange.
Firefighters arranged a high-angle rope rescue to reach the bottom of the cliff and retrieve the man, Prange said. However, rescuers discovered the man was dead as they descended.

LAFD personnel were attempting to retrieve the body as of 5:30 p.m.
The man's name was not released and it was not immediately clear how he died.
