COMPTON, CA — The election is just one week away, and the famed Compton Cowboys saddled up Sunday to wrangle up some voters and drive them to the polls.

Dozens of Compton cowboys and cowgirls moseyed through the city on horseback to drop off their ballots at the ballot box while raising awareness about the importance of voting and counteracting voter suppression measures.

“We have to do it for those that can’t,” Randy Savvy, a Compton Cowboy told NBC Los Angeles.
The cowboys stopped traffic and captured attention as they trotted through the city, reminding folks that their vote is their power.

According to Savvy, the Compton Cowboys partnered with the Unstoppable Voters Project as part of a national effort to combat voter suppression.

“The voter suppression issue is very real--a lot of different intimidation factors, a lot of different various factors that have kept people from voting including lots of just misinformation,” Savvy told NBC.
