CALIFORNIA — As the Golden State continues to expand its vaccine rollout, CVS will join in the effort by opening up 119 more pharmacy locations for residents to get inoculated.

CVS Health was set to start offering shots as early as Sunday in CVS Pharmacy storefronts across the state. Californians were able to start making appointments Saturday as more stores receive the latest shipments of vaccines.

These 119 locations add to the 167 stores previously made into inoculation centers in the state, bringing the total number of CVS Pharmacy locations offering shots up to 286, according to the company.

While supply remains a major sticking point in the state's embattled vaccine rollout, CVS officials said supply for their stores comes from an expanded rollout directly sourced from the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program.

Also through this program, some Rite Aid pharmacies are also offering appointments for the coronavirus vaccine.

"Feedback on every aspect of the vaccination process has been incredibly positive, from the digital experience to interacting with our team of health care professionals whose incredible efforts are helping to move us one step closer towards the eventual end of the pandemic," said Neela Montgomery, President of CVS Pharmacy and Executive Vice President, CVS Health, in a statement.

Pharmacies will administer vaccines by appointment only and will only inoculate eligible California residents. In California, K-12 teachers and staff and childcare workers are now eligible to get their vaccine shots at CVS.

Those seeking an appointment must register in advance at CVS.com or through the CVS Pharmacy app. Those with additional questions can reach CVS Customer Service officials at 800-746-7287.
