String Of Freeway Shootings Rattle Southland

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a shooting on the Santa Ana (5) Freeway​ in Los Angeles.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Police were investigating a freeway shooting in Downtown Los Angeles Wednesday morning. It's the latest of several freeway shootings reported in the last 24 hours.

No one was injured in the attack, but a motorist reported talking fire while driving northbound on the Santa Ana (5) Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The shooting happened before the morning rush hour at about 6 a.m., according to the CHP. The driver reported behint hit by shots near Broadway and pulled of the freeway to call police.

It's the latest of, at least, six reports of freeway gunfire in the last 24 hours in the region. On Tuesday evening, two drivers on the San Diego (405) Freeway at the Orange and Los Angeles county border, reported shattered windows they attributed to possible gunfire after hearing what sounded like gunshots. Investigators weren't able to immediately verify whether the windows were shattered by bullets.

One of the drivers described the ordeal to ABC7. The rear window of her SUV shattered as she drove on the 405 Freeway in Seal Beach.

"My little one is always in the car with us, and at any given time, I have kids in the backseat," said Kristina Martinez Adame . "This time, thankfully, they weren't."

She says it was "terrifying to think of what could have happened if the children were in the car."

Also on Tuesday, a freeway shooting took place on the southbound 5 Freeway in Buena Park, and a second on the eastbound 91 Freeway at the 5 Freeway transition, according to the CHP. One person suffered a minor injury from flying glass, the CHP reported.

Earlier on Tuesday, a fatal shooting spree led to a police chase across Los Angeles county that ended in a shootout on the Riverside (91) Freeway that killed the suspect and shutdown the freeway for hours.
