100-Year-Old Man Bludgeoned To Death; Suspect Arrested

Los Angeles police arrested a 47-year-old man in connection with two attacks in Encino Thursday that are believed to be random.

ENCINO, CA — A 100-year-old man was bludgeoned to death and another man was wounded in two apparently random attacks in a quiet Encino neighborhood Thursday.

Police arrested a 47-year-old man armed with an ax and a knife in connection with the attacks. Detectives are working to determine if there is any connection between the victims and the suspect. Officers arrested Adam Dimmerman, 47, in the 17600 block of Karen Drive after the second attack. According to police, he was armed with an ax, as well as a knife.

Los Angeles Police Department detectives believe 100-year-old Youssef Mahboubianfard was slain first inside the garage of his home in the 17700 block of Alonzo Place, north of the Encino Reservoir. Officers had been called shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday to investigate reports of a man found with numerous lacerations inside of a house. Mahboubianfard was dead at the scene.

An hour hearly, police had been called to the nearby area to respond to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon. Officers found a man with lacerations on his left arm in the 4400 block of Coronet Drive in Encino at about 11:50 a.m. Thursday.

The Los Angeles Times reported that the suspect fled, and that the victim followed him and phoned police. Detectives are confident Dimmerman committed both attacks probably killing Mahboubianfard first, According to the LAPD.

Paramedics tended to the second victim but he did not require treatment, police said.

Dimmerman is being held on $2 million bail, according to jail records. No court information was immediately available.
