LA, OC Airports Stay Open During Coronavirus Outbreak

LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CA — Airports in Los Angeles and Orange counties remain open even though many flights have been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Airports are considered essential operations and LAX and Van Nuys airports remain open for essential travel, airport officials said.

"Guests are strongly advised to check with their airlines before heading to the airport. Additionally, public health guidance recommends only flying for essential travel to reduce the possible spread of germs," officials said Friday in a news statement.

Businesses that are part of airport operations are also deemed essential, including takeout food service, stores, parking structures and firms that provide ground transportation, possibly with reduced hours, officials said. Guests are urged to remain six feet away from other people and avail themselves of more than 500 hand sanitizer stations throughout the airport.

Efforts to keep surfaces clean have also been increased, officials said.

People picking up passengers are urged to remain in their vehicles rather than going inside, officials advised.

Similar measures are also in effect at Hollywood Burbank and John Wayne airports.
