SANTA CLARITA, CA — Six Flags Magic Mountain will open April 1, making it the earliest major theme park to reopen in Los Angeles and Orange counties.

It's the first day that theme parks are allowed to reopen under state guidelines, and it's a full month before Disneyland plans to open its gates again. The theme parks will be allowed to reopen at 15 percent capacity. For parkgoers willing to venture into crowds again, they'll largely have the park to themselves.

Magic Mountain will open for members and pass holders on April 1 and 2. It will reopen to the general public on April 3, according to park officials. Under the state's reopening rules, tickets and reservations will be available online to California Residents only, officials said. The rule is designed to discourage travel and the spread of the virus during the pandemic.

Visitors are also limited to groups 10 or fewer, and from no more than three households.

The reopening comes more than a year after the pandemic shutdown theme parks in California.

Universal Studios Hollywood and Knott's Berry Farm have not yet announced their reopening plans. In San Diego, SeaWorld has reopened in a limited capacity along with other aquariums around the state. It did not reopen all of its attractions such as its rollercoaster.

State health officials announced earlier this month that theme parks can reopen beginning April 1 in counties that have reached the red tier of the state's four-level Blueprint for a Safer Economy. Los Angeles County moved into the red tier on Monday.

Throughout the pandemic, Magic Mountain has served as a testing center and mass vaccination site.
